In 1991 Christian Louboutin opened his first boutique in the Passage Véro-Dodat in Paris. Two years later, in his atelier, he reached for an assistant’s red nail polish and painted the sole of a prototype with it. A spontaneous gesture became the most recognisable signature in fashion.

Ever since, the red sole has stood for an entrance that does not need to ask for attention. Models such as the Pigalle, the So Kate and the Kate have shaped the silhouette of the stiletto. Alongside them, the maison develops sneakers, bags and small leather goods with the same feeling for construction, proportion and colour.

Christian Louboutin Beauté followed in 2014: the Rouge Louboutin nail polish carried the signature red into cosmetics, joined by products for lips and eyes in flacons that resemble objects rather than packaging.
